The Dodecanese neighbour the Turkish coasts making the Islands have contrasting architecture, archaeology and culture as well as a varied landscape with rock and volcanic soils of Patmos to the lush landscapes of Rhodes.

The island is lively and busy with fantastic beaches, blue seas, and a wide variety of water activities including water skiing, surfing and yachting.
Falaraki is the main resort on the Island where is draws the younger crowds, so much so that there was a television documentary made called “ Cub Reps” which showed some of the more not so finer points of the Islands is you are above the age of 30.Rhodes is divided into the old town and New Town. The new town is bigger and more compact with many of the hotels located near the harbour, the New Town is mainly where the party action it located. Rhodes can accommodate with sightseeing and places of interest with an Aquarium which displays a variety of Mediterranean marine life located in the New Town and much historical monuments such as a world heritage site designed by UNESCO and archaeological Museums which houses a statue of Aphrodite and fine art with 6th century pottery and the Byzantine Museum with its 11th century knights. The surrounding scenery in Rhodes is fantastic and there is no better way to spend the day looking around the hidden monuments, chapels and mosques that the Old Town has to offer including the Archangelos which is decaying fortress.
The town of Symi offers a more peaceful retreat with its rocky beaches, green hills and little villages. Symi is Rhodes capital that offers a port and harbour with ship building yards and some classical looking mansions. The town is very much centred on the sponge fishing trade and has some wonderful point of interest to visit including a Museum which houses some medieval artefacts and a castle located on top of the village called the Castle of the Knights which was constructed over the acropolis.
Flying to Rhodes and kos is easy, however for the independent traveller many of the flights are charter ones. These become very busy during the summer season. Most flights are available directly from the United Kingdom and from European and International Airports. Other flights to the Islands operate by Olympic Airways.
Flying to some of the Islands is fairly easy with many Charter flights available during the summer months to Mykonos, Milos, naxos, paros, Thira, Syros and Amorogos all available from Athens and some direct flights available from the United Kingdom. If flying to Athens there is the option to travel by ferry or hydrofoil to the Cyclades.
