Iceland is beautiful at any time of year however the cost of accommodation is considerably different. Many hotels and B&BS close for the winter season between the months of October and April due to the harshness of the winter weather. Accommodation rates are however much cheaper off season than peak season. So dependant on the type of accommodation you require will greatly determine your budget. For students and budget travellers you could stay in one of the many Icelandic Youth Hostels www.hostel.is in the Reykjavik and surrounding areas.
Camping is another cheaper alternative ideal in the lovely warm summer months of June – September. If you are heading in to the remote mountainous districts you can stay in one of the many mountain huts. Hotel Accommodation costs vary considerably anything from 9,000kr to 16,000kr per room per night. Guest houses are slightly cheaper and even cheaper are B&BS although the vast majority of them close for the winter.
