The Islands located south of Athens provide a welcome retreat for the locals living in Athens as these Islands are easily reached by a short thirty-minute journey from the Bustling Capital. In the mountain regions you may catch a glimpse at a Kestrel, griffon Vulture and Eagle. Reptiles can also be found such as the Balkan green Lizard and Geckoes feasting on mosquitoes at night. Butterflies on the Island are all around with beautiful varying colours.
Passenger ferries and tourist boats can do travelling to the Saronic Islands to all the Saronic Ports departing from Piraeus central harbour on a daily basis making it perfect for day trips. Flying to the Islands is another option with flights available departing from Athens with Olympic Airways to the various Islands. Hydrofoils (although more expensive) are the fastest way to travel around the Islands, however services may be limited during the winter months due to rough waters.
